"Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did no receive a spirit of fear, but you received the spirit of Sonship. And by Him we cry, 'Abba, Father.' The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."    Romans 8:14

As I write this first article as your new Headmaster, I want to share some "first impressions" and outline our plan to move forward. Prior to my arrival, my view of Dunham had been shaped largely by the Search Committee, consultants, and the Board of Trustees.  I now have had time to form some views of my own.

The real difference between then and now is that I have begun to "feel" Dunham. Such language may seem strange to those outside the family, but most of you know exactly what I am attempting to communicate. Once I had only read about "education of the heart," but now I am beginning to experience it. It is still very early, but my love for Dunham is firmly established and I am excited about God’s plan being unveiled in the days ahead.

As I have learned Dunham’s history, it has become evident that what we have been given is of the Lord. He has used parents, trustees, teachers, students, and community leaders to impact this school for His kingdom and the good of the area. We must preserve and build on that solid base. "From everyone who has been given much, much will be required." (Luke 12:48) The great charge before us is to respond appropriately for all we have been given.

I ask you to join me as we contemplate, work, and pray for the discernment required to corporately lift Dunham to the next level. What an exciting time! We celebrate 25 years of blended history and simultaneously enter a new era of excellence…..all in the name of Christ!

We begin by updating the Strategic Plan. Gratefully, we don’t have to start from scratch. However, we will consider any need to enhance the spiritual, academic, arts, and athletic components of the school, as well as the physical and fiscal aspects.

As a school that seeks to honor Christ in all its teachings, it is time for us to have a place to worship during our twice-a-week chapels. This facility will double as a center for performing arts, but its primary purpose is to honor our commitment to God with a place for worship.

Wouldn’t it be great to have facilities designed to house early childhood learners in a new Lower School Complex? The complex would include a library, cafeteria, gymnasium and other spaces required to self-contain our youngest students.

If you have a child involved in sports, you know that we do not have adequate dressing facilities, nor enough fields on which to play. We need an athletic complex.

Now, I know what you are thinking! How will we pay for all this? II Corinthians 5:7 reminds us that "we live by faith, and not by sight." If we could easily see how such ambitious plans could happen, it would leave no room for vision. More importantly, giving God the leadership in this process requires us to remove ourselves from the center and pray earnestly that He will direct our path so that miracles can occur. I earnestly seek His wisdom and humbly request your fervent prayers that each one of us might be used to advance The Dunham School and His kingdom…..all for the sake of the children!
