Over the last couple of weeks, second grade has had the unique opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement. Under the leadership of some wonderful second grade dads, Brett Blanchard, Chad Istre and Jake Witte, each class was engaged in hands-on lessons that focused on young people succeeding in a global economy. Students discussed a variety of career choices and specific skills related to certain jobs, how business and government jobs help a community, taxation, voting and the flow of money in a community’s economy. Through role-playing, collaboration, critical thinking and teamwork, each second grade class finished Junior Achievement with a more comprehensive understanding and sense of career awareness. They also discovered how citizens benefit from and contribute to the success of their own communities. We are so thankful for the opportunity we had to participate in Junior Achievement and we loved being mentored by our wonderful, volunteer dads!
