Honoring Moms and Dads

On April 24th the Dunham First Graders honored their dads with doughnuts and coffee. Every year the first grade students take time to appreciate their dads by making cards, writing stories, and spending time together. This year the dads and kids competed in an engineering problem solving task.  Each group of 4 was given a yard of tape, a yard of string, 20 spaghetti noodles, and a large marshmallow. The task was to build the tallest free standing tower possible with the marshmallow on top. Some towers stood tall, some were small, some didn’t stand at all, but everyone had a ball. Thanks dads for all you do!

Each year our second grade students get the chance to honor their mothers with a very heart warming Mother’s Day Tea. Students participate in a beautiful program where they sing songs to their moms and recite beautiful words of encouragement. Students also present their moms with handmade portraits, teacups, poems, and corsages. Both moms and their children enjoy wonderful refreshments together. It is a very special day enjoyed by everyone as sweet memories are made at the Mother’s Day Tea.
