Dunham seventh graders Sarah Brady and Evan Gleason were two of the three overall winners of the Sertoma Club’s annual Freedom Week essay contest.
Each year, The Sertoma Club of Baton Rouge sponsors the Freedom Week essay contest to help students think about freedom and its related responsibilities. Open to all 7th grade students in East Baton Rouge parish, the contest awards three overall winners with a plaque and $150 savings bond.
This year, more than 175 essays were submitted, representing students from 8 different schools in the parish. The three overall winners were honored at a luncheon held at Ralph & Kacoos on February 20, 2017 where they had the opportunity to meet members of the Sertoma Club. The winning students read their essays aloud to luncheon guests and received their plaques and prizes,
